Built in the 1860's as the grand home of a rich Edinburgh barrister, The Royal Ettrick remained a private residence until it was converted into a hotel during the 1940's. Extended in 2003 and undergoing refurbishment and extension in early 2008 to accommodate an extra 9 bedrooms, the hotel has the modern conveniences guests have come to expect whilst retaining the original character, charm and features of this beautiful building. The Royal Ettrick Hotel is situated less than fifteen minutes by bus to Princes Street and linked to the heart of the old town by The Union Canal making access to Edinburgh's major attractions quick and simple. The hotel offers 17 bedrooms situated across all three floors of the property, and upstairs accommodation is accessed via the original ornate staircase.
